This was just taken at the door of the room

Packed up everything and we're on our way at 5.45am on the 24/11/07, we wanted to get an early start as the weather had been so hot and we didn't want to be stuck in the car with that heat. The journey itself was very straight forward, we headed south towards Hamilton, and then slowly worked our way across the east of the country passing through Tirau and Tokoroa until we arrived in Lake Taupo...this was where we had scheduled a stop, a picnic and a relax...until we got there...suddenly there we're bikes everywhere and huge posters advertising the annual event...it was heaving...we got to the roundabout to take out turning and ...you guessed it, the road was shut down all day...now, we had discovered by now that in NZ there tends to be just one main road to anywhere, so we thought we could be there for the day..or we would have to head way way out of our way...anyway, we pulled into petrol station to ask, and a nice guy said to Graham, 'follow my van and it will take you to the same road but further up'...yippee....so we did and we we're away again.
Took us 6 hours to get there, and I think we saw about 15 cars the whole way....arrived in Hawkes Bay to stunning scenary and lots and lots of vineyards. Headed straight to the accomodation which was in the middle of nowhere, a place called Ocean Beach....beautiful for a holiday destination...but very isolating when hunting for jobs! Had no phone signal and the internet was an absolute no no.
We had booked to stay here for 3 weeks, but ended up finding alternative accomodation and stayed a week in the end. It was luxury in that we had a kitchen and a lounge, and lots of sheep...unfortunately for me (J), we also had cochroaches (spelling?!?) for guests...aghhhhh, they we're massive...but what a location........
